💎 Best for: access to a stunning spa
Crossing the bridge over sparkling Biscayne Bay, it’s clear you are headed somewhere special. Set on the barrier island of Key Biscayne just 15 minutes from Downtown Miami, The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne has been a treasured getaway for more than 25 years.
The beachfront resort recently reopened after a $100-million tune-up, and it is better than ever. For regulars like me, the most noticeable upgrade is the coastal-modern lobby, where floor-to-ceiling windows now frame unobstructed views of the Atlantic. The iconic Rum Bar also received a modern glow-up, making it the perfect spot to sip a “My Neighbor’s Mango” cocktail rimmed with Tajín.
Renovated guest rooms are washed in quiet sandy hues and blonde woods. I stayed in an ocean-view double queen room where I could watch the sunrise from bed, and the soundproofing ensured I left rested and refreshed. Booking a Club-level room is worth the splurge: the ninth-floor lounge features all-day bites, Taittinger Champagne, and stunning views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.
Dining is exceptional across all six of the onsite venues. My favorite is Luma, a new Italian outpost where the chef imports ingredients from Italy—the sweet corn and truffle agnolotti is unforgettable. Paralía serves Aegean-inspired seafood with ocean breezes, while Dune Beach Bar is the place to kick off your sandals and grab a smash burger in the sand.
Outside, two distinct pool areas cater to families and adults seeking tranquility. The revamped spa has traded its dated look for serene finishes, complete with cold plunges and saunas. Ultimately, natural beauty remains the island’s calling card, and this refreshed classic is a refined respite to soak it all in.
Time Out tip: The spa here also features hydrotherapy amenities like a cold plunge, jacuzzi, and sauna, so make sure you leave some time before or after your treatment.
